separated out from previous page
For general info see Houdini Height Fields
Note that Houdini's tool is called Height Field and you can see all the nodes by typing tab hf
They also use the word Terrain to describe the result and in Unreal they are called Landscape
In game:
- Heighfields in Unreal - our own SCAD Alumna Bianca Lopez shows you how to bring Houdini heightfields into Unreal!
My Summary of Steps:
- create a terrain (heightfield), create a cop2net in the container,
- create a SOP Import. Reference your heightfield.Ensure
you check remap 0 to 1.
- In the SOP Import SOP TAB Set Resolution (2K) and rgb, add a
blur (for smoothing).
- save image from cop to bring into unreal (right click and save image as PNG (not jpeg)) Be sure to not have it convert to color space, you want it in linear, not sRGB
- In unreal click on terrain tool to get the file, size and click import - TA-DA!
- note - you can also export out of unreal and bring it back into Houdini - might want to use those cool unreal sculpting tools
- Landscape tab > Target Layers and right
click on your map layer. Then select export to file! From
there you can have your new PNG!
- Bring this into a copnet and make sure it is linear.
