About
Deborah Fowler is a professor of Visual Effects at SCAD in Savannah, Georgia, where she teaches proceduralism, problem solving, and professional collaboration in a multidisciplinary environment.
A passionate believer in the collaboration of art and technology, she recently led a team of students to bring to life Splat Garden - a web-deployable interactive experience that spans AI Tools, 3DGS, Simulation and live interaction. Prior to that she co-supervised a Rehabilitation VR project in conjunction with Emory University as well as student projects with NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center for educational public outreach for the ICESat-2 mission, which included the animated short Photon Jump.
Deborah was a senior member of the lighting and modeling teams at Pixar Animation Studios, contributing to Toy Story, A Bug’s Life, and Toy Story 2.
Previous to her career in industry, Deborah’s Ph.D. and postdoctoral research included biological modeling of plants and spiral patterns in nature. This work appeared in two SIGGRAPH papers and in two books: The Algorithmic Beauty of Plants and The Algorithmic Beauty of Sea Shells.
